Joint venture BMV (BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall, VolkerFitzpatrick) are undertaking key repair works to the Oldbury Viaduct, between junctions 1 and 2 of the M5, for Highways England.
The 3.2km of elevated viaduct requires significant deck repairs, to increase its lifespan. In order to achieve this, the team will remove the viaduct’s surface and carry out a series of tests to establish where repairs are required.
All deck ends and joints will be re-constructed and the underslung drainage will be replaced. Following the repairs, the surfacing will then be replaced. Traffic management measures will be in place during the project, to ensure the works are carried out safely, with minimal disruption to the traveling public.
This large-scale, multifaceted project has a duration of approximately 18 months and is expected to complete in Autumn 2018.
You will be greeted by a member of the team upon arrival and will be invited to watch a short introductory presentation about the project.
There will then be an induction and safety briefing, before heading out on a minibus tour of the live site.
The tour will begin underneath the viaduct, where you’ll see the full extent of the access arrangements and the scope of the works required under the deck.
We’ll then move ‘above deck’, where you’ll see our on-site team working on hydrodemolition, the concrete repair process, verge construction works and waterproofing operations.
