JM Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, lived locally and played extensively within the house and gardens of the existing property, and he has acknowledged that this was the inspiration for the boy who never grew up.
This contract consists of the renovation of the existing category B listed building, originally designed by a renowned local architect, and the construction of new east and west extensions to provide a learning centre for children’s literature, café, and meeting spaces over four floors including an existing and a new basement. In addition there is extensive work to the gardens being carried out, including new play equipment, a pirate ship, lookout, Indian camp, and new planting.
Visitors will be given an introductory presentation and a tour around the site.
