Route 39 Academy, which opened as North Devon’s first free school in 2013, currently has a temporary home in Higher Clovelly. The new site offers a stunning setting for the new sustainably-designed school.
Construction of a new two-storey school building of 5,950m² for 700 pupils, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty 7 miles south-west of Bideford, North Devon.
The school is scheduled for completion this summer.
The main construction works include; reinforced concrete pad and strip foundations, a mixture of ground bearing and suspended ground floor slabs, reinforced concrete frame up to and including first floor slab level, structural steel frame from first floor slab to roof level, a single ply roof, SFS to the external walls, a mixture of brick and timber cladding, uPVC windows and an access bridge from the car park to the main entrance (located on the first floor). Associated external works include both hard landscaping to a large car-park, bus drop-off / turning area and a sports area, and soft-landscaping to soft play and amenity areas.
