The Town Square and the Italian Gardens form a key public space in the town located between the main retail areas and the seafront and are identified as one of the main catalyst regeneration projects for the Town.

The public realm strategy focuses on creating a distinct identity for Town Square, and a unique destination within Weston-Super-Mare inspired by its seafront location and the town’s historic connections with Marconi and the mining of Calamine. Designed to form strong, legible connections between Weston College, the Royal Hotel, South Parade, the High Street and the Sovereign Centre, Town Square will sustainably support existing and future events whilst presenting users with opportunities to linger and engage with nature within an urban context.

The project includes breaking through and relocating sections of the existing historic wall enclosing the Italian Gardens, opening up the north side of the Town Square to South Parade and integrating hard landscape surface materials with the interface of Weston College, at the restored Winter Gardens.

Construction activities include:

Earthworks - Removal of existing ground to reach a firm base to commence placement of fill for paved areas

Construction of attenuation tank & associated drainage

Pavement construction using a natural stone paving.

Relocation & renovation of historic stone walls 

Installation of street furniture

Installation of water feature

Directions

The Town Square site is situated in the heart of the town centre of Weston-super-Mare. If you are travelling from the north we are just a ten minute drive from the M5 motorway, junction 21. Alternatively if you are travelling from the south west, then exit at junction 22 and approach Weston initially along the A38, and then the A370.

We are beside the Sovereign Centre shopping mall which has a multi-storey car park and the pedestrianised High Street just off the sea front beside the Royal Hotel.
