Stechford Leisure Centre
The project which began in August 2016 sees ISG constructing a new leisure centre to replace the adjacent existing Cascades Leisure Centre on Station Road, Stechford which was built in the early 60’s.
The new build consists of a 25m long six lane swimming pool, a separate learner pool, 4 court sports hall, dance studio, and fitness suite all with supporting changing facilities. The reception area combines with a café area whih provides views into the pool hall and also extends into an open external terrace area.
As the location of the new leisure centre is on sloping contours, the facilities are designed over three floor levels to complement the natural change in levels of the site.
The building is a steel frame construction which is enclosed in a range of finishes including brickwork, cladding, curtain walling and windows.
Internal walls are blockwork finished in plaster or render to receive ceramic tiles where necessary. With the exception of the pool hall and fitness suite, all rooms have suspended ceilings and are fitted out to support the function.
Assess up and down the building is either by staircase or lifts, one of which has been sized to allow sport wheel chair use.
Externally the front area of the building provides some car parking with designated disabled parking, and the overall design accommodates a coach drop off point near the main entrance.
The team are currently constructing the swimming pool concrete shells and balance tanks. The first phase of the structural steel frame has been successfully completed and the composite floors slabs commenced. Brickwork and blockwork has just started to programme.
By the time of the Open Doors tours, the remaining steelframe should be underway, the water testing of the pool shells started and the internal blockwork partitions started.
