Erdington Leisure Centre
The construction of a new leisure centre that replaces an old public carpark in the centre of Erdington started on site in June 2016. The new build consists of a 25m long six lane swimming pool, a separate learner pool, dance studio, fitness suite, sauna and steam rooms all with supporting changing facilities.
As the location of the new leisure centre is on sloping contours, the facilities are designed over three floor levels to complement the natural change in levels of the site.
The building is a steel frame construction which is enclosed in a pallet of finishes of brickwork, cladding, curtain walling and windows.
Internal walls are blockwork finished in plaster or render to receive ceramic tiles where necessary. With the exception of the pool hall and fitness suite, all rooms have suspended ceilings and are fitted out to support the function of facility.
Assess up and down the building is by either staircase or lifts, one of which has been sized to allow sport wheel chair use.
Externally the front area of the building provides some car parking with designated disabled parking.
At the time of the Open Doors the external envelope of the project will be complete with all windows, doors, cladding and roofing complete. Internal works will be being actioned.
