The project targets the refurbishment of both the envelope and interior of the Edinburgh College of Art, a category A listed building constructed between 1906-9. The works will be carried out in 2 phases to allow the college to continue to operate throughout the restoration works. The roof slate, lead and membrane works will all be fully restored. Windows will be upgraded using Slimlite replacement gazed units and the roof voids fully insulated. All M&E services will also be fully renovated.
Phase 1 – The north section of the building will be restored during the first phase including full upgrade of the HIG courtyard, roof and services through out. The first phase also includes the summer 16 works, focusing on the basement toilets and workshop areas including the formation of the new entrance to the workshop area. Phase 1 will be completed after the summer of 2017 to allow migration of the ECA teams to allow Phase 2 to progress.
Phase 2 – Phase 2 will cover the south section of the building and will include the full refurbishment of the Sculpture Hall and main stair glazed roofs. Temporary weather protection will be required over the Sculpture hall during this period. On completion of Phase 2 services full commissioning checks will be carried out throughout
