Kier Construction have been appointed by Torfaen County Borough Council to construct the new £30 million Croesyceiliog School, Cwmbran. This multi-million pound project is a state-of the-art facility that will benefit 1200 pupils and the local community.
The new 11-16 school comprises a split level site, with a new three-storey steel frame Teaching Block and the separate Sports Hall on the lower level. The construction of the new school is being undertaken within the boundary of the existing school, so coordinating these works in a live school environment is of paramount importance to ensure the safety of the children. There are a number of live services running through the site, which need to be diverted whilst carrying out 5000m3 of earthworks cut/fill operations. The new buildings will be supported on over 500 precast concrete piles, that will be driven to bedrock to form the foundations.
A new access road is being formed to the new school from Turnpike Roundabout. This will then form the permanent access and a new car park. Once complete, the old school will be demolished and a new multi-use games area will be constructed on the footprint of the old school.
This is an opportunity to see behind the hoarding at the Swansea Impact site.
