A VolkerFitzpatrick-Kier joint venture
The state-of-the-art £225 million Luton DART will be a double-shuttle, fully-automated people-mover (APM) based on latest system technology and design innovation, and capable of operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The system is an investment by Luton Council’s airport company London Luton Airport Ltd (LLAL) and will provide fast and reliable transfers between Luton Airport Parkway railway station and the terminal of London Luton Airport in well under four minutes.
The cable-driven system is energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
The project’s civils works are being undertaken by VolkerFitzpatrick-Kier joint venture and the transportation system by Doppelmayr Cable Car UK Ltd.
The project officially started in April 2018 and since then the works have included sheet piling works to the DART’s central station and traffic diversion works for the access road tunnel.
The team has also begun sheet piling next to the airport’s ‘Bravo’ taxiway and completed the enabling works for CFA bored piling on the viaduct section.
Please arrive five minutes before the start of your visit and congregate in reception at the site office which is on Kimpton Road, LU2 0LA.
One of our on-site team will give you an inside look at the project, describing the work to date and plans for taking the DART through to completion.
You’ll also get to hear what it’s like to work on a construction site and learn about the types of roles required for a project like this.
There will then be a short safety briefing and induction, before you head out for a look at part of the project.
You will be able to see the development of Parkway Station and the viaduct section of the project as well as the construction plant training area.
We do not plan to go onto the site itself, however if we do, full personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. This would be provided by the site team. Boots would be provided – please state your size requirements when booking.
The site is a two minute walk from the rear entrance/exit of Luton Airport Parkway Station, site access is via the main entrance on Kimpton Road, next door to the Hampton Hotel. You will need to speak to security at the gate who will direct you to the project office reception.
Please note: there is no parking available at site, very limited street parking and limited parking available at the Hampton Hotel, however this would incur a cost to drivers.
