At Heathrow, our purpose is to make every journey better for the 80 million passengers who travel through our airport every year. With that many passengers it’s imperative that we keep our facilities up to date and regularly maintained to ensure they are ‘fit for purpose’. Under our Passenger Experience Programme, this project involves the complete renovation of the pedestrian subway which provides access between Heathrow’s terminals 2 & 3, the bus and train stations and other areas of the airport.
The project involves work on a number of elements in a complex and constrained environment. To summarise these works include the;
- Replacement of a 107m passenger conveyor in the main tunnel 1 location
- Removal and replacement of walls, ceiling and flooring finishings in tunnel 1
- Removal and replacement of ceiling and floors within tunnel 2
- Removal and replacement of the entrance to the pedestrian subway including works on the access ramp
