About the event
Formerly known as City Place House, 2 Aldermanbury Square is an office led redevelopment scheme carried out by Keltbray and Lendlease for the developer GPE. The development entails 320,000 sq ft of office space and aims to deliver a net-zero carbon building.
Works include construction of:
- 2-storey basement
- creation of a new pedestrian highwalk through the site
- construction of the 13-storey office building
3 interesting facts about this project:
- It is planned that all the existing steel from the building being demolished is to be refurbished and reused to build another of GPE’s developments. This is the first time this has ever been done at this scale.
- The existing City of London highwalk will be replaced with a new CorTen Steel bridge which will reconnect the walkway from the Guildhall, through London Wall Place and across the barbican. The original highwalk was constructed following the second world war to separate the pedestrians in the city from the busy traffic below.
- The building is cantilevered at level 3 over the public highway, supported by raking columns and a 3-storey steel truss.
Activities
Visitors will firstly be greeted by key members of the project team and taken to our project boardroom where the team will give a short presentation on:
- how the project got to where it is today
- where the project is currently
- what the construction looks like for the rest of the project
The team will then take the group to visit the site where they will see the completion of the basement, concrete core construction and preparation of the steel frame.
Following the site visit, the group will be taken back to the boardroom to be given a presentation by each of the members of the team to explain what they do and how they got to where they are today. This will be followed by details of different opportunities available in the industry and routes to achieving these.
