About British Library

The British Library’s 44-acre facility at Boston Spa has underpinned research and library services across the UK for over half a century. It is recognised internationally as one of the great library infrastructure centres of the world.

Now, some 60 years after the visionary policy decision to locate a national facility of strategic scale in the North of England, there is a pressing need for investment to renew this vital part of the UK’s collections infrastructure, driven by continued collection growth in both physical and digital formats, and a growing risk to some five million collection items from their continued storage in substandard buildings dating from the 1940s.

The Project will be to refurbish and create a new building to free up space for a creative campus of partner organisations co-located on-site alongside the Library’s collections.

Activity

This Virtual Vist will be hosted over Microsoft Teams. A link to join this will be sent before the event

The Wates British Library site team will share and present an insightful presentation which will take you over Wates plans and the concept art of how the new British Library will look on completion. This will include a brief history and introducttion to the British Library and how this will be improved by the end of the job. You will also meet the team and hopefully learn more about the construction process.

There will also be time at the end to ask any questions you have about this job, Wates as a business or the construction industry as a whole.

Information on Open Doors 2022 will be released shortly
