KVF35, a joint venture between Kier and Volkerfitzpatrick, is working to deliver 12 different assets over a 3 year timeline for Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the US Airforce (USAF). The project started on 14 November 2018 and is due to end in November 2022. The contract value is £160 million. Construction is now progressing on the first set of projects to prepare the airbase in Suffolk for the arrival of two new squadrons of US F-35s in 2021.
Construction works include a mixture of infrastrucure and new buildings including aprons. Construction began in July with a groundbreaking ceremony at the base. Work has been progressing with 2 important buildings taking shape. The squadron operations building will include an Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU) with separate administration, amenity, lecture theatre and classroom areas.
There will be similar spaces for both squadrons, with accommodation for each mirrored on either side of the building.
To improve training in a variety of different operational scenarios, work has also started on the construction of a flight simulation facility to train the next generation of F35 pilots.
