Cardiff Council is looking to provide a new Secondary School incorporating associated sports/leisure facilities. This project represents a significant new facility for the children and young persons and local community. The 21st Century Schools Programme is jointly funded by the Welsh Government and Cardiff Council. Fitzalan High School is the first scheme of the Council’s Band B programme.
In conjunction with the wider 10 Form Entry + 350 brief, the following items are particular requirements:
Sports facilities, including 25m swimming pool, sports hall and changing / ancillary areas to be placed in the optimum location to allow out of hours community use;
A separate self-contained Extended Opportunities Unit with its own external spaces;
The re-provision of an existing primary cluster facility (refer to risk register).
Relocation of displaced CAVC facilities within the reconfigured site.
The proposed new location for the new Fitzalan High School has the House of Sport Air Dome, 3G all-weather football pitch and a grass football pitch, associated with Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) in situ. Forming part of the enabling works contract, these facilities will be relocated to enable the new high school to be sited fronting Leckwith Road.
The site proposed for the school development is a large area of land, located to the north of the A4232 link road, in Canton, Cardiff.
