About FoSS

This new build for the University of Sheffield will provide over 16,500m2 of accommodation in teaching, learning and social space for students as well as departmental research and faculty space. The building will accommodate approximately 3,200 people comprising of 2,600 students and 600 staff and researchers. The main structure is a concrete frame with a steel frame bell in the middle. It will have four floors ground to 3rd floor. The building itself has a saw-tooth concept design and has been constructed on piled foundations with reinforced concrete beams and slabs to ground level. There will be two pedestrian entrances from Whitham Road and Northumberland Road, both of which will be set back to provide areas of public realm for student and local use.
