Procured through the Southern Construction Framework (SCF), Kier will deliver the complete refurbishment of an 11-storey 5700m2 office block, providing the University with an outstanding facility to support its Faculty of Health in delivering the next generation of health professionals.
The project will create state-of-the-art teaching spaces with the equipment required to train future nurses, midwives, paramedics, physiotherapists, and other allied health professionals.
The scheme will comprise an enabling package which comprises the asbestos removal, soft strip demolition and installation of temporary props to the first floor which will be used to support the scaffold. The building will be stripped back to the original 1962’s concrete frame – all elements currently within the building will be removed, including all mechanical and electrical services.
Demolition of the canopy roof to the adjoining RISC building forms part of the works.
The building will be entirely encompassed with scaffold and sheeted with monarflex throughout the refurbishment works. This is to facilitate the removal of the existing curtain-walling system and the installation of the new.
Internally new teaching spaces are created with associated meeting rooms, offices, breakout spaces and circulation spaces. Stud partition walling and new mechanical, electrical and plumbing services are fitted throughout.
The fitout of the building will form the final process prior to project test, commissioning and handover.
When complete the building will be the UoP Faculty of Medicine where future medical professional will be taught.
Kier has started main works on the building and is working with local supply chain partners to deliver the project. It is on schedule to be finished in advance of the 2023/2024 academic year.
