South London and Maudsley Hospitals: The Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People.
Children and Young Persons, on Windsor Walk, is being redeveloped to become a new mental health facility for young people. Over 10 levels house inpatient wards, a small school and clinical and research space. The new design has been developed by architects who specialise in creating spaces with mental health and its treatment is in mind. They have taken on board years of input from patients, staff, carers, and regulators.
The services within the CYP building comprise the following:
One ward of inpatient space with associated support areas
Outpatient and community consulting rooms room
One small school
Office accommodation for clinicians and researchers
Space for diagnostic devices
Space for an Intensive Therapy Programme.
Some Interesting Facts:
The Children and Young Persons hospital is set to be the world-leading centre for child and adolescent mental health. From the outset, young service users have been involved in its design.
The hospital will provide cutting edge treatment and well as being a research facility enabling the world’s leading experts in clinical care to come together under one roof to collaborate and share ideas.
It will also be a new home for the Maudsley and Bethlem Hospital School which provides highly personalised education for young people whilst they are inpatients.
