About CEMC

The Laing O’Rourke Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction is Europe's largest and most advanced pre-assembly manufacturing facility.

The investment in our own purpose-built facility, which opened in 2009, has united the power of our experience and knowledge of construction with state-of-the-art processes and technology, providing our clients with leaner, smarter and more cost efficient options for the built environment.

Central to our Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) approach, Explore Manufacturing gives Laing O’Rourke a unique self-delivery capability that leads the construction industry in driving greater levels of design standardisation and construction quality. Our manufacturing operations transform traditional construction methods into modern processes of assembly, using lean automation and quality assurance systems.

Our extensive organisational infrastructure and in-house manufacturing capabilities allow what are often complex building system components to be safely and responsibly manufactured and assembled in a controlled factory environment, whilst consistently achieving the highest standards.

Effective management of safety, health, environment, quality, energy, carbon reduction, and responsible sourcing is of key importance to the sustained success of our business. Our long-term success depends on sustainable business practices and the Explore Manufacturing team has given its full backing to ensure that our net zero targets are achieved to support both our clients and our own internal targets.

Today, this approach is enabling us to deliver our UK projects faster, more safely – with fewer people on site - and greener. In Australia and the Middle East, we a...
