The Royal College of Surgeons site is part new-build construction and part refurbishment. It includes the redevelopment works of the existing RCS Barry Building, which is grade 2 star listed with a 200yr old library within, involving retaining the front elevation. To the rear of this there is also a connecting newbuild construction on the remaining portion of the site including the installation of a new facade on Portugal Street.
Current works on our site include the last few concrete pours, precast concrete panel installation to the Portugal Street Facade, drylining partition installations, mechanical and electrical installation, blockwork wall construction, remedial works to the existing Barry Building, removal of scaffold and temporary steels, firestopping works, including intumescent paint, and low level M&E works in the Library. Whilst visitors are on site we will aim to see both works on the new build and on the existing building to ensure that a wide range of trades are seen and the coordination require between the old and the new, as well as with the Mace/LSE site next door, can be explained and shown.

Unfortunately due to the size of the site and the nature of the visit we are unable to open the site to any children under the age of 12. This is mainly due to a lack of appropriate size PPE and also due to some of the works currently ongoing on site. Please ensure that any children under the age of 18 are accompanied by a responsible adult at the visit as per the Open Doors Terms and Conditions.
