About the event

The Bristol Zoo -Central African Forest is in the first phase of Bristol Zoo’s relocation and Beard Construction are happy to be building a visitor centre and Gorilla house on the new site just north of Bristol, by Cribbs Causeway, right by Junction 17 of the M5. The project started in June 2024 and is due for practical completion in February 2025.  The gorillas and mangabeys will each have their own indoor areas and a large shared outdoor forest area, with plenty of trees and space to explore and exhibit natural behaviours.

The zoo has cared for gorillas since the 1930’s contributing to the European captive breeding programme, an essential part of the species conservation.

Activities

During your session you will be treated to a presentation which will be led by our site team who will be able to give you an insight into the planning, preparation, problems that they have come across and how they’ve overcome them. A recent UWE student who is now working as assistant site manager will talk about his journey into construction, there will then be an environmental talk by one of the educators of the Bristol Zoo on how important the new site is for the animals, followed by a tour around the site where you will see for your self the progress made.
