Timber Square will be a net zero carbon development which aims to be the largest commercial development in the UK to use cross-laminated timber (CLT). The ambitious project demonstrates how such buildings can respond to the climate emergency and industry net zero carbon targets for both construction and operation.
Set on the site of a former timber storage yard and latterly a printworks which is partially retained, the scheme aims to honour SE1’s rich industrial heritage.
2 Commercial Buildings:
Timber Square aims to deliver 365,000 sq ft net zero carbon workspace and retail spaces.
The project consist of two buildings with public realm between them:
• The East Building (Print) is a partly existing building which retains a big percentage of its existing structure, and will be extended with several floors using a hybrid structure of steel and CLT: 10 stories (4 + basement existing and 6 new)
• The West Building (Ink) is a new building using a hybrid structure of steel (castellated beams) and CLT with central exposed concrete core: 14 stories + 2 basement stories
