The school will be one of Cardiff’s biggest, with an eight-form entry and pupils aged 11 to 18. There will be space for 1,200 Year seven to Year 11 pupils, plus 320 sixth formers for post 16 education.
The scheme will see the relocation of Michaelston Community College and Glyn Derw High School to the new Cardiff West Community High School located on the recently demolished site of the old Glyn Derw site approximately 3 miles away. The new school is based on a standardised open plan design developed by Powell Dobson, arranged over 2 floors with out of hours community access to key facilities. The school includes the normal teaching spaces, sports hall, dance studio, hall, etc. but also includes science labs fitted out with specialist equipment and a 3G dual marked football and rugby pitch to FAW/Sports England standards, complete with 100 spectator stand. The project consists of three separate buildings; Main teaching block 11-16, a post 16 education block; Sports block.

- Extensive investigation for groundworks, archaeology and ecology including historic roman villa, soil, bats, dormice and previous demolition.
