About the event

The project comprises of a new Oncology Extension to the existing department, providing a new decant linear accelerator bunker and Brachytherapy treatment suite along with clinical support and planning spaces, anaesthetic room, recovery bays, exam room, staff and patient changing along with WC spaces to the ground floor.

The core critical works relate to the construction of the 2 number bunkers, one LINAC and one Brachytherapy, the method in which these bunkers are constructed are paramount to the robust operation of radiotherapy treatment.

Extensive attention to detail with regard to the LINAC bunker has been considered, in particular the wall thickness, concrete mixes, and most importantly the concrete curing process approximately 580m3 of concrete will be used within the bunkers. Following construction of the bunkers the superstructure consists of part  reinforced concrete (RC) frame, with a mixture of composite deck and steelwork completing the 3-storey build.
