Discovery Academy is an 80 place SEN (special education needs) in the heart of Sheffield. The project, procured through the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) medium band framework, was delivered under the Department for Education’s free schools’ programme. Classrooms in the new building are designed to be safe and calming for pupils with severe autism and include a range of specialist rooms. A multi-use games area and a generous mix of green and hard-surface play surround the building, offering open and sheltered options for alternative learning.
On arrival, all visitors will sign in with our gate man and he will escort them to our meeting room. Visitors will then be asked to put on site supplied PPE and be escorted on to site by one of the management team. The open doors visit will give visitors the opportunity to take a full look around the building site, meet the builders on site and ask questions.
We are currently progressing the internals (drylining/plastering/joinery and M+E) as well as the completion of the externals. Visitors will be able to view the following tasks being undertaken
Building internal walls and possibly plastering
Putting in the pipes, ventilation and wires to the ground floor
Building the external brick walls
Putting in drainage and laying paths
Information on Open Doors 2022 will be released shortly
