McLaughlin & Harvey has been engaged by the University of Edinburgh to construct the first phase of the Nucleus Project, which is a new learning and teaching facility in the heart of the King’s Buildings Campus.
The building has five storeys including a basement level and will create a vibrant, purpose-built hub with space for teaching, learning, studying and social activity. The finished building will contain five lecture theatres, a laboratory, seminar rooms, study spaces, social space, a cafe and a commercial unit.
The building is directly connected to two pre-existing university buildings, the Noreen and Kenneth Murray Library and King’s Buildings House.
This project is being delivered through the Scape Construction Major Works UK framework.
The structure of the building is composed of a steel frame, concrete floor slabs and a curtain wall envelope. Since April 2021, the site has began the internal fit -out works, which include the installation of partitions, M&E with the main lecture theatres now progressing with the installation of the 1st fix acoustic wall and ceiling elements.
