The state-of-the-art £225 million Luton DART will be a double-shuttle, fully-automated people-mover (APM) based on latest system technology and design innovation, and capable of operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The system is an investment by Luton Council’s airport company London Luton Airport Ltd (LLAL) and will provide fast and reliable transfers between Luton Airport Parkway railway station and the terminal of London Luton Airport in well under four minutes.

The cable-driven system is energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

The project’s civils works are being undertaken by VolkerFitzpatrick-Kier joint venture and the transportation system by Doppelmayr Cable Car UK Ltd.

The project officially started in April 2018 and since then the works have progressed well. Notably, the team recently delivered the successful installation of an 80-metre long, 1,000 tonne curved bridge, which forms an integral part of the new fast transit system.

Please arrive five minutes before the start of your visit and congregate in reception at the site office which is on Kimpton Road, LU2 0LA.

One of our on-site team will give you an inside look at the project, describing the work to date and plans for taking the DART through to completion.

You’ll also get to hear what it’s like to work on a construction site and learn about the types of roles required for a project like this.

There will then be a short safety briefing and induction, before you head out for a look at part of the project.

We do not plan to go onto the site itself, however if we do, full personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. Boots, trousers and jackets will be provided by the site team – please state your size requirements when booking, without these you will be unable to attend any tour.
