1 Appold Street is a major commercial redevelopment within the Broadgate Campus in the City of London (EC2). The project will transform a 1980s office building into a modern, sustainable workspace designed to meet the highest standards of wellbeing and environmental performance. Currently in its enabling and demolition phase (around 5% complete), the scheme retains approximately 75% of the existing structure while adding five new floors, a rooftop pavilion, and landscaped terraces.
Once complete, the building will provide around 51,800 sqm (558,000 sq ft) of Grade A office space. It will target BREEAM Outstanding, NABERS 5.5 Star, WELL Platinum, and EPC A, reflecting British Land and Skanska’s commitment to sustainability. The design includes active frontages, improved pedestrian connectivity between Appold Street and Exchange Square, and extensive urban greening through planted balconies and terraces.
This forward-thinking development will create a vibrant, inclusive environment at the heart of Broadgate, supporting thousands of jobs and reinforcing the campus as a world-class destination for business and community.
Visitors will start with a short presentation introducing the vision for 1 Appold Street and how the project is transforming a 1980s building into a modern, sustainable workspace. You’ll learn about innovative design features, sustainability goals, and the role of construction in shaping future cities.
Following the presentation, guests will take a guided walk-through of the live site to see enabling works in progress and understand the early stages of construction. This is a rare chance to experience the scale and complexity of a major redevelopment up close.
The visit will conclude with an informal Q&A session where you can meet members of the Skanska project team. They’ll share insights into their career paths, what inspired them to join the industry, and the skills needed to deliver projects of this scale.
