Henry Brothers is currently delivering the next phase of the extensive refurbishment of the University of Manchester located in the heart of the university’s campus. The four-year framework is for schemes from £5m to £20m and Henry Brothers is one of five contractors that have been awarded a place on it. This major project forms part of the institution’s long-term investment in modernising its estate and enhancing facilities for research and teaching. The refurbishment aims to create state-of-the-art laboratory spaces, improved energy efficiency, and upgraded infrastructure to support world-class scientific work.
The first phase of the Building refurbishment began in early 2022, and the second phase is now well underway. Once finished, the project will provide a modern, sustainable environment that meets the needs of students and staff while supporting cutting-edge research in chemistry and related disciplines.
This scheme is part of a wider commitment by the University of Manchester to improve its facilities, and Henry Brothers’ appointment to the university’s construction framework ensures a pipeline of future projects. The company’s experience in delivering complex developments for universities across the East Midlands, West Midlands, and North West positions it as a trusted partner in creating high-quality educational spaces.
During their visit, students will arrive on site, sign in, and be welcomed by the site team. The experience begins with a guided site tour, where students will gain a real insight into the day-to-day operations of a live construction environment. The team will provide an overview of health and safety practices, explain why these are essential, and outline the various roles and responsibilities within the site. Throughout the tour, there will be opportunities for students to ask questions and engage with the team, helping them deepen their understanding. This interactive experience is designed to showcase the wide range of careers available in construction, from planning and management to skilled trades. By the end of the visit, students will leave with a clearer understanding of what it’s really like to work in construction and the exciting opportunities it offers.
