Join us for an exclusive Open Doors day at the A47/A11 Thickthorn junction upgrade, one of the region’s most significant infrastructure projects. This £200+ million scheme, delivered by Skanska for National Highways, is designed to ease congestion, improve safety, and support future growth around Norwich. The project includes a 1.6 km free-flow link road, two new underpasses, a modular bridge, and improved walking and cycling routes.
During the event, you’ll learn how this transformation is taking shape and why it matters for local communities and businesses. You’ll also meet the teams behind the work at Thickthorn, including Skanska and key supply chain partners like Skanska Cementation, Environ, MJ Church, Flannery, and Llynch.

Activities
Visitors to the Open Doors event will journey through each phase of the Thickthorn project.
The day includes:
- A guided presentation on the junction upgrade’s scale, including insights on construction, engineering and more.
- A visit to our viewing platform and work areas with supply chain teams from Environ, MJ Church, Flannery, and Llynch demonstrating what they do and how they work.
- A hands-on workshop where attendees can explore digital design tools, try simple surveying tasks, and understand how infrastructure is planned and built.
- Panels with employees sharing what career pathways look like in construction.
- Q&A stations with apprentices, tradespeople, engineers, and sustainability advisors ready to talk career entry, training routes, and what a day on a construction site really involves.
