Construction is underway on the new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school in Faringdon, marking an important step forward for specialist education in Oxfordshire. Designed for children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, the purpose-built facility will replace the former Victorian school building with a modern, carefully planned environment focused on therapeutic support and inclusive learning.
The new two-storey school will provide specialist classrooms, sensory and breakout spaces, outdoor learning areas and dedicated support facilities for staff and pupils. With capacity for around 104 learners, it will help meet growing local demand and reduce the need for out-of-area placements.
Main construction follows the successful completion of enabling works and reflects strong collaboration between Oxfordshire County Council, the Department for Education and Tilbury Douglas. Once complete, the school will offer a calm, adaptable and welcoming setting where SEMH learners can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Visitors will begin the event with a short induction and health and safety briefing to ensure everyone understands the site rules, required protective equipment and safe working practices. This introduction will outline key hazards, restricted areas and the procedures to follow while moving around an active construction environment.
Following the induction, guests will receive a high-level overview of the project, outlining the purpose of the new school, its main features and the programme milestones achieved to date. The team will explain how the works are being delivered, the partnerships involved and what the next stages of construction will involve.
The visit will conclude with a guided site tour, giving attendees the opportunity to observe progress first-hand and see how the new building is taking shape. Staff will be on hand throughout to answer questions and offer further insight into the project’s development.
