Building Futures: Construction Careers at South West College is a 90-minute interactive careers showcase hosted at South West College’s award-winning Erne Campus.

The event will run across two sessions — a dedicated schools session (10:00–11:30am) and a session open to the general public (12:00–1:30pm).

The showcase highlights the breadth of construction and sustainable technology provision available through South West College, including traditional trades, modern methods of construction, renewable energy technologies, retrofit, digital construction, and smart building systems. Construction facilities and specialist training areas are fully operational, with industry-aligned curriculum delivery actively supporting workforce development across the region.

Hosted at the Erne Campus — one of the world’s first Passive House Premium educational buildings — the event demonstrates how modern construction practice, low-energy design, and sustainable building principles are applied in a real-world setting.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of careers within construction and the built environment, inspire progression into technical and trade pathways, and strengthen connections between the College, local schools, employers, and the wider community.

Activities

Visitors will take part in an engaging 90-minute experience combining careers insight, live demonstrations, and interactive technology.

The session will begin with a short presentation outlining construction career pathways, qualifications, and emerging roles across trades, technical disciplines, and sustainable construction fields.

Attendees will then explore a hands-on technology showcase featuring Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), drones, and interactive digital tools used in modern construction projects.

The visit will conclude with a guided tour of the Erne Campus, allowing participants to see first-hand how sustainable construction practices, advanced building systems, and low-energy design are incorporated into contemporary construction practice.
