About the event

Currently 35% completed, the Emergency Care Building at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth is due for completion in April 2029.  The building will provide four clinical floors of modern, purpose-built accommodation for urgent and emergency care across Plymouth, South Devon and Cornwall.

The ground floor will house an expanded Emergency Department, with the existing department reconfigured as a dedicated Paediatric ED on completion. A Same Day Emergency Care unit sits on the first floor, with four interventional radiology theatres and five new surgical theatres for both emergency and planned procedures above.

Together the facilities will provide close to twice the capacity of the current 50-year-old Emergency Department, one of the busiest in the South West.

Activities

On visiting the Emergency Care Building for Open Doors in March, the operating theatres on Level 9 will be starting to take shape with the M&E commencing in those areas.

In addition to having a tour of the site itself by one of the Willmott Dixon team, at this stage of construction, visitors to the event will be some of the first people to really visualise what the central hybrid theatre & the four general operating theatres and recovery bays will look like.
