About the event

Galliford Try started works at Merrist Wood College in July 2024. The project will provide a brand-new school with 3 buildings for 120 SEN students. The works consist of demolishing the existing structures on the site and a huge undertaking of cutting and filling of site to achieve the levels for each building, as the site currently has a 7-meter gradient across it. This will also include the installation of multiple sections of retaining wall to hold these levels. The foundation for the project will be a raft foundation and the project will be utilising Modern Methods of Construction, with the buildings being modular. Therefore, all of the sections constructed and furnished off site, leaving the assembly of the units to be completed on site. There will also be a car park installed with multiple electric charging stations, and solar panels on the roof of the buildings, helping to reduce the carbon footprint of the project

A Department for Education framework project situated in Northwest Guildford comprising the construction of a single storey teaching block to the North, state of the art glasshouses and two storey teaching block along with tractor maintenance/storage facility to the South of site. The project is formed of 4 phases and has a duration of 94 weeks. Complex ecological and environmental constraints as well as early ICT diversions are required prior to the start of construction. Practical completion is in April 2026.

Activities

The event will consist of a Health and Safety Induction, site tour and presentation which will include a project overview, job roles and pathways into construction followed by a Q&A session, together with an interactive activity which will be delivered via VR Headsets with a fly through of the project
