About the event

Did you know that there are over 300 different career paths into construction? Despite construction being essential in today’s society and the abundant careers paths to take, the construction industry is facing a massive skill shortage.

At Wates, we want to encourage and grow the next generation of people in the construction industry. One of the ways we are seeking to do so is providing local opportunities for people from all demographics to visit our sites and understand a little bit more about construction. There is no better way to do this then to be on site, seeing the variety of trades and roles involved in it’s day-to-day operation.

Whether you are a community group wanting to learn more about what’s happening in your local area, a job centre working with career changers or a school looking to encourage your students to consider the vast opportunities available in the construction industry, then we are more than happy to invite you onto our site. We try to work in the local area so this opportunity will be available to Barnet based groups.

You’ll be visiting our site on the Bishop’s Avenue, also known as Millionaire’s Row. As expected from such a name, we are building a unique development with a very high spec finish. The property is being transformed into a Luxury Later Living development, consisting of 93 one-to-three-bedroom apartments, a pool area featuring a spa and sauna, as well as cryotherapy, hydrotherapy and physio treatment spaces, a hair and nail salon, cinema, dance, training and arts studio, gym and personal training spaces, a ballroom, games room, library room, meeting rooms, reception and concierge, basement car parking and more.

Safety is our number one priority. All attendees with be required to wear 5 points of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and will be shown around site by one of our trained site operatives. We are open to showing around groups of up to 20 individuals at a time. Depending on the group size we may be able to assist in providing PPE however, especially with groups of over 10 participants, if individuals are able to wear their own safety boots, then this would be very helpful.

During the construction phase, our sites aren’t always accessible to all. Individuals attending should be able to walk up and down stairs and remain standing/moving for a period of up to one hour. If you have individuals who do not meet this requirement, then we are more than happy to work together to understand your needs and see if we can provide a suitable alternative experience.

Please note that this offer is open to individuals schools, individuals, organisations and community groups based in Barnet. If you are based outside of Barnet but have a cohort made up largely of Barnet residents, then please get in touch and we can discuss.

Visitors will be lead on a site walk by 2 of our site managers and taken across various floors, showcasing the progress on site so far.
