On behalf of Swansea Bay University Healthboard, Tilbury Douglas are building a £14 million regional state of the art static Positron Emission Tomography (PET-CT) facility with supporting accommodation at Singleton Hospital.
This exciting capital investment is funded by the Welsh Government under an All Wales PET-CT Programme which aims to develop four static PET-CT scanners across Wales within the next 10 years.
PET-CT is now a central diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of cancer, and increasingly in several non-cancer conditions. This new facility will replace the current mobile service with a scanner providing more sensitive and higher resolution digital images. Supported by artificial intelligence (AI) this new scanner will significantly improve the quality of diagnostic care and improve health outcomes for cancer patients within South-West Wales.
Due to open in early 2027 this facility will be sited next to the existing South West Wales Cancer Centre. It will include six private ‘uptake’ rooms where patients can be prepared before being scanned. A room for general anaesthesia (when needed) is also planned. All the clinical and supporting areas, including a dedicated waiting and post-screening area, have been designed to provide as safe and as comfortable an environment as possible.
This site uses CSCS Smart Check – the only platform to verify all 2.1 million CSCS-logoed cards.
Visitors will have a 45 minute presentation on the project, project progress to date and careers and pathways in to jobs in construction, followed by a 15 minute Q&A session. Following that a 45 minute tour of the project, with an opportunity for further Q&A for 15 minutes.
All equipment for the site visit will be provided – Hard Hat, Hi Viz Vest, goggles and gloves. We do ask that you wear suitable footwear, no high heels, sandals or open toe shoes. Also long trousers must be worn, no dresses, skirts or shorts.
