About the event
The plant depot is the central hub for storing, maintaining and preparing our specialist rail and construction machinery. Within the depot, visitors can see a range of On‑Track Machines (OTMs), plant equipment and support vehicles, as well as the workshops where repairs, inspections and servicing take place. The depot also includes office space for operational planning and coordination, with clearly defined restricted areas to ensure safety around active maintenance zones and heavy machinery. It provides a full insight into how our teams manage equipment readiness, safety standards and day‑to‑day operations that support projects across the network.
This site uses CSCS Smart Check – the only platform to verify all 2.1 million CSCS-logoed cards.
Activities
Visitors will be welcomed on a guided tour of the site and workshop, giving them a closer look at ongoing works, completed activities, and the specialist equipment used by the team. The visit will also include engaging team‑building exercises designed to introduce key skills used in construction and engineering in a fun, hands‑on way. To finish, attendees will take part in a careers talk, offering insight into the different roles available, the pathways into the industry, and the opportunities for training, apprenticeships, and long‑term development.
