Southsea Coasal Scheme is the UK’s largest local authority led coastal defence project. Stretching 4.5km the project will help reduce the risk of flooding to more than 10,000 homes and 700 businesses. Funded mainly by the Environment Agency it is a Portsmouth City Council project being delivered through Coastal Partners. Leading the engineering design is Royal HaskoningDHV who are supported by Atkins and LDA Design for landscaping and public realm. Contracted by two of the worlds leading maritime contractors – VSBW, a joint venture between VolkerStevin and Boskalis Westminster. VolkerSstevin focussing on marine civil engineering and Boskalis Westminster on dredging, land reclamation and marine construction. The types of sea defence vary along the 4.5km stretch, the project will also vastly improve the public realm in the area.
