About the event

The Integrated Health Project Joint Venture  of  Sir Robert McAlpine and Vinci Construction are pleased to invite members of the public to the site for this 2024 Open Doors event.

This provides Year 10/ 11 students, and those considering further education as apprentices, A’ level and beyond or individuals with an interest in pursuing construction as a career an insight to construction roles at this University Hospital Dorset NHS Foundation Trust building for healthcare as part of their transformation strategy.

The project is in its final construction and fitout stages, with some external groundworks and hard landscaping progressing, and trades on site include carpentry, drylining, flooring, ceiling installations, painting and decorating, installing plumbing and electrical and mechanical services specific to hospitals, wall protection installations, doors and joinery.

Transformation Strategy – The BEACH Building (Births, Emergency, And, Critical care, children’s Health) on the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site. The new facilities, described as a ‘once in a generation opportunity’, will include a new purpose-built maternity unit, purpose-built children’s unit, enhanced emergency department and critical care unit, with capacity for up to 30 beds. As part of development plans, the multi-story car park will be enlarged and a new pathology hub built to provide laboratory services for the whole of Dorset. Environmental sustainability is central to these developments, and the Trust has committed £1m to support the provision of more sustainable and healthy travel options.

The total programme of works runs up to 2026 and forms part of the £250m transformation and development plans for our hospital sites.

This site uses CSCS Smart Check – the only platform to verify all 2.1 million CSCS-logoed cards.

Activities

Visitors will be provided with a health and safety briefing, and presentation to the background to the design and construction of the building with a overview using digital technology.
