About the event
Positioned outside Thornbury and overlooking the two Severn Bridges, the Two Bridges Academy is a much needed SEND school catering for the education of up to 130 youngsters from the ages of 4 to 19. The 3,800m2 scheme is designed specifically to cater for the needs of those with very challenging learning difficulties. The school includes floor to floor ramp access, ceiling mounted hoists and a therapy pool. The room layouts with additional break-out rooms, recognises the practical problems these children encounter when in a structured learning environment. The design reflects the physical and psychological needs of these youngsters.
The is to be managed by The Enable Trust, and has been school has been sized to accommodate 30 students in the first year (August’24). This number shall increase as new intakes are brought in year by year.
As of Christmas 2023, we are 50% through the £16m value of the work and we shall complete the building ready for occupation, in August 2024.
Activities
Visitors will see a steel-framed building, weatherproofed, with brickwork complete and cladding underway. They will see the internal works progressed to the stage that the partition walls are erected and partially plastered, with certain areas having underfloor heating and screed laid. The mechanical and electrical installations will be in progress and the wiring will be underway in two or more of the five zones that we have split the building into.
One of these zones, zone 3, contains the swimming pool and we anticipate that we shall have our specialist contractor, Buckingham, employed in that area on their M&E pool supplies, as well as working on render, tiling and working in the ancillary changing areas.
We will have carried out much of the external works, so whilst the kerbs and roads are not complete, they are prepared to their extent and require finishing with planters, top-coats, white ling and planting. This is anticipated for the late spring and summer of 2024.

Accessibility:The site under construction can accommodate limited disabled individuals. There are no lifts available to access the site offices nor the different levels on site. Given timely advice, we may be able to make arrangements, but there is nothing specific on site that could guarantee unobstructed access to certain areas.
