The Moygashel Wastewater Treatment Works refurbishment is located in the village of Moygashel, within the Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council area, approximately 2km south of Dungannon, just off the A4 towards Ballygawley. The site serves both the residential and industrial populations of Dungannon and Moygashel, playing a vital role in protecting public health and the local environment.
GEDA Construction is currently delivering Phase 2 of this significant infrastructure upgrade. The project focuses on modernising and optimising the existing treatment processes to improve efficiency, resilience and long-term operational performance.
Key works include major mechanical and electrical upgrades across the site, with improvements to primary and final settlement tanks, sludge holding tanks and pumping stations. The existing treatment process is being enhanced through the installation of bubble diffused aeration, a new anoxic tank upstream of the activated sludge process, and upgraded inlet screening. Site-wide improvements also include replacement PLC systems, cabling and motor control centres, ensuring reliable and future-proofed operations.
In addition, the project includes construction of a new welfare and administration building, a new sludge thickening and dewatering facility with odour control, and extensive associated site works such as drainage, roads, lighting, and generator upgrades.
Once complete, the refurbished facility will provide improved wastewater treatment capacity, supporting future growth while delivering environmental and community benefits for the wider area.
All visitors will begin their visit with a short site safety briefing, including a standard GEDA Construction induction video, which must be completed before entering this live operational site. This will ensure everyone understands the safety requirements and what to expect during their visit.
The first part of the session will take place in the site cabin, where the Site/Project Manager will deliver an overview of the Moygashel Wastewater Treatment Works refurbishment, outlining the purpose of the project, key construction activities and progress to date. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain a clearer understanding of how the facility operates and why the upgrades are essential.
The second half of the visit will include a guided tour of the treatment works, allowing visitors to see the infrastructure and processes first-hand. As the tour progresses, key elements of the upgrade will be highlighted, with further opportunities for questions throughout. By the end of the visit, attendees will have a strong understanding of how the site functions and the importance of the works being delivered.
