The Balfour Beatty VINCI SYSTRA joint venture (BBVS JV) is working in partnership with HS2 to build Old Oak Common Station, a new super-hub set to be the best-connected and largest new railway station ever built in the UK. The station will have fourteen platforms, a mix of six high-speed and eight conventional service platforms, with an 850m-long station box.
Once complete, the station box will host the underground high-speed rail services.
Piling has also started on the conventional station building that will host the eight conventional rail platforms ahead of works to move the tracks on the Great Western mainline to route them through the station.
During their visit, attendees will be taken to a purpose built viewing platform from which they will see works on the 20-metre-deep underground station box, which will house six platforms for high-speed trains. Following the removal of 1.3 million tonnes of London clay, work is now underway to build the 400-metre long station platforms. They will also be able to see Conventional Station which will have eight platforms for Elizabeth Line and GWR trains. Here, platform construction has commenced with the installation of the platform Invert Walls which will support the pre-class platforms slabs due to be installed later in 2025.
