About the event
The Southfields & Newry development, located at The Newry, Leicester, LE2 6SL, is a residential scheme being delivered on behalf of Leicester City Council. Once finished, the project will provide 53 high-quality new homes to help meet local housing need, right in the heart of the community.
The development includes 44 houses and bungalows offering a mix of two- and three-bedroom homes, alongside 9 modern apartments with one- and two-bedroom layouts. A strong emphasis has been placed on accessibility, with a number of homes specifically designed to support residents with mobility needs, enabling people to live independently and comfortably for longer.
Sustainability is central to the project’s design and construction. Homes are being built using timber frame construction, allowing for efficient delivery while maintaining high quality standards. Low-carbon technologies such as air source heat pumps, underfloor heating, solar panels and mechanical ventilation systems are being installed to improve energy efficiency and reduce running costs for future residents.
The scheme also incorporates thoughtful environmental features, including permeable paving, attenuation tanks, a new drainage basin doubling as a wildlife-friendly green space, and a retained mature birch tree. A new cycle and footpath, enhanced with rainwater planting, will improve connectivity and create a pleasant route for pedestrians and cyclists.

Activities
All visitors will begin their visit with a short site safety briefing, including GEDA Construction’s standard site induction video, which all visitors must complete before entering the site. This ensures everyone understands how to stay safe while on a live construction project.
The first part of the visit will take place in the site cabin, where attendees will be welcomed by the Site Manager, Contracts Manager and Social Value Lead. A short presentation will be delivered outlining the Southfields & Newry development, its purpose, key features and progress to date. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how the project is being delivered.
The second half of the visit will include a guided tour of the site, offering a first-hand look at the development as it takes shape. The Site Manager and Contracts Manager will highlight key elements of the build and explain construction processes, with further opportunities for questions throughout.
By the end of the visit, attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the project and its impact on the local community.
