About the event

This project for Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust began in 2022 with the demolition of the previous large manor house, sanitorium, residential adult learning disabilities and Learning Hub on Cork Tree Crescent in Boston, Lincolnshire.

Many of the design concepts and construction methods were taken from the recently completed P107 Acute Adult Inpatients facility in Lincoln.

The Norton Lea project will comprise a 2 storey 19-bed new build standalone acute adult inpatients facility, incorporating clinical and communal day and activity spaces with associated ancillary space to replace the existing Ward 12 at Pilgrim Hospital. The site houses several trees with tree preservation orders, with a rare Cork tree in the centre of site which will create a focal point to the completed project. Additional car parking will be constructed as part of this project for staff, visitors, and outpatients.

The new building will be equipped with the latest in energy saving technology to include air source heat pumps and PV solar panels.

Proven construction methods have been utilised, including a steel frame incorporating 3 different roof types and facades comprising a balanced mixture of brick/cladding and curtain walling. There will be upper and lower floor plant rooms. The building is required to be low maintenance with materials that have a long-life span.

Note to Visitors – Parking is available on site with an additional 10 no. overspill spaces in the adjacent St Thomas’s Church carpark

Activities

At the time of the Open Doors scheme, the structural steel frame is complete and external brickwork, wall cladding and window installation progressing. Internally, the rolling internal fitout schedule is well advanced, with examples of mechanical and electrical first fix being undertaken. This means that examples of metal partition walling and plasterboarding throughout to second side boarding will be available to see.

Additionally, floor screeding will have commenced, with plaster skimming following.

MEP will be well advanced in main service and risers and installation in the individual rooms will be well advanced.

The 1st floor timber deck plant room floor has been installed in preparation for all the heavy mechanical plant being installed.

Externally the new roadway to the building main entrance and radiating around the Cork Oak tree is installed up to below wearing course.

In summary, all aspects of construction apart from structural steel frame will be available to view.
